Exactly 2 weeks ago, Mel and I had the honor to be Wee Han and Lay Hooi’s wedding photographer. This photography assignment started from Thursday evening in Penang and lasted till Sunday afternoon in Johor Bahru.
After having met up with them during the pre-consultation session and learning better about them , my mind started to fire up immediately upon thinking of the arrangements involved: what are the shots I am going to take and how am I going to carry out this photography assignment successfully. I also thought about the lighting equipment and camera gears that will be used for specific location under different conditions. Furthermore traveling between states requires careful planning as there’s a limit on the luggage that you are allowed to carry on board.
I used to carry a bag pack around whenever I go for photo shooting. With this assignment, I got myself a new camera bag; it’s a Think Tank Takeoff (with WHEELS! – no more shoulder pain). It fits well with my 2 cameras, 2 flashes, 3 lenses with hood, battery chargers, diffusers, Justin Clamp and etc. Other tools like monopod and umbrella will be placed in another bag.
For the Thursday wedding dinner reception in G Hotel – Penang, my pals (Jimmy Ng, Milan Teh and David Lee) came by to assist me. This makes the whole photo shooting even more fun and I know that I have great photographers around to capture the moment so that none of it will be missed. The night went by fast, and we ended the photo taking session with a portrait session for Lay Hooi and her lovely friends (15 mins before mid-night).
The next 2.5 days’ photo shooting session in Johor Bahru – Kota Tinggi went on smoothly. Mel and I divided the photo shooting task in order to get the most from Wee Han and Lay Hooi’s big day, I am happy to say that those challenging photography shooting situation I used to have is no longer a concern to me . This is especially true when shooting in a hall with high ceiling andwhen the flash light almost never bounce back to your subject. Last but not least, I could not do any more than I could without Mel’s presence and support.
Below are some of the highlights. Cheers!
